Officer and a Gentleman
My name is Pierre Louis, and I'm committed to empowering young men to reach their full potential. Like you, I want to play an active role in making myself, my family and my community a safer, better place to raise children, run a business, and forge a future filled with unlimited promise.
If you share my vision, I urge you to connect with me and help make it happen! Together, we can make a meaningful difference-- for our families, our communities, and our country.
Excerpt from the book, “How to be a gentleman when the rest of the world is wearing baggy pants
As I began to write some of my life’s work in this book, I looked at the wall of certificates, four keys to cities given from 4 different Mayors and footlockers of programming books, I noticed that I have been working in some service capacity with youth programs for over 30 years now. However, long before the programs, I developed a sense of service at the age of 6 listening to Dr. King’s speeches at Campbell Elementary school. For me, that was the hearing of service, however, I feel my life of doing service for others began 50 years ago as a young Cub Scout at the age of 8. My mother would tell me daily to “Be a Gentleman"
I created the Pierre Louis Leadership and Service Scholarship Award to encourage youth to begin thinking early about service to one's community. The winner must present a written and oral presentation of their commitment to improve in 3 areas; SELF, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY!
I believe in the performance of Community Service. There are so many ways to contribute to our immediate communities. Over the years, we have relegated community service as a punishment for people in trouble. "Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is the only national holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities, according to the Corporation for National & Community Service."
